Dev Blog - Daemons & Dealings

I intended to finish my final week of narrative design polishing Starbound, but an offhand comment from my husband about demons (I forget how the conversation started) inspired me to create an entirely new story. I give you Daemons & Dealings!

Overall Thoughts

This narrative was a little more complicated to setup with all the different choices and took me two full days, but I enjoyed testing more of Fabella’s capabilities.

It was fun to use the more expressive voices from Replica, though I think it would be helpful if Fabella had the option to add subtitles if you’re using the web player. I love the deep voice I used for Bellfeara (the proprietor of my magical shop), but it isn’t as clear as some of the other voices, which could affect the accessibility of the audio narrative.

Future Plans

If I get the chance to spend more time on the project, I’d probably add additional customization for the text based on player choices (more details about the creatures you summon), and more creature dialogue. We only get a few lines from them and I think it’d be fun to have a longer scene where you can talk with your new companion.

I’d also love to get proper illustrations (something I wish for all my projects!), as it’d further enhance the player experience, but I’ll first have to find an artist who wants to be paid with food and coffee. :)
